Waterfront property with a pool, five bedrooms, and an open concept floor plan designed for big families? Yes please! Where do I sign?
2269 Haversham Close in Virginia Beach perfectly encapsulates that private patch of paradise feeling. The main floor is flooded with natural light. Large windows frame a breathtaking view. And the backyard oasis steps right into Broad Bay, with a private dock for watersport equipment.
Originally built in 1993 by a custom home builder, 2269 Haversham Close exhibited several interior design trends popular in the 90s. Now, you won’t see them in the video above, because that footage is from after our renovation.
Before our renovation, you stepped into a foyer with bright white marble floors. In fact, most of the floors were either white marble or dark tile, often cutting right into each other. In the 1990s, those sharp, clashing colors created an interesting juxtaposition. However, as we continue into the 21st century, those design choices have become more dated and a little ostentatious.
But the house had great bones, so to speak. The layout, open concept, and exterior remain much the same. And it served to gather families, offering grandkids a backyard beach, an amazing pool, a personal oasis, and countless happy memories.

That all changed in 2023, when a tornado swept through Virginia Beach.
In the late afternoon of April 30th, 2023, storm clouds gathered off the coast. You could peacefully watch lightning flash from the cozy main floor, unaware of what was coming.
As rain beat against the windows, a funnel cloud formed just beyond Cape Henry Lighthouse. It touched down on Cape Henry. The tornado slashed through First Landing State Park. It cut through Virginia Beach, heading southwest, with 2269 Haversham Close right in its path.
It quickly picked up speed over Broad Bay, escalating into a 3 out of 5 on the Enhanced Fujita scale. At this point, everyone inside 2269 Haversham Close took shelter within an interior room of the basement.
The EF3 tornado roared like a deafening freight train. Trees ripped out of the ground, roots and all. Entire roofs were torn from their houses. Cars turned and tumbled into each other. Everyone within Haversham Close held their breath as the cyclone raged on.
As quickly as it came, the tornado dissipated, only lasting for 5 minutes. As the skies cleared and the sun set over the bay, over a hundred families stepped outside. In the eerie silence of this once-peaceful afternoon, the families inspected the damage.
That EF3 tornado damaged over 115 homes, resulting in $20 million in damages.
Thankfully, there were no casualties. But toppled trees blocked the roads. Almost every window was shattered, covering the ground in broken glass. Some houses were even shifted off their foundations.
2269 Haversham Close’s private, backyard dock was now nothing but driftwood floating in the bay. Glass shards littered the interior. Outside, the welcoming archway lay in pieces.
If you search 2269 Haversham Close, Virginia Beach, VA 23454 on Zillow, you’ll see pictures from the recovery. The windows are boarded up, the front door is broken, and there’s a dumpster in the driveway.

The Result is the Newly Renovated Home you see in the Video.
We like to let the results speak for themselves. However, we’d love to highlight some hard-to-notice features. Firstly, we replaced the roof and all the windows.
We removed the tile floors and replaced them with hardwood floors. These floors unite the entire main floor. We also added step levels to differentiate rooms within the open-concept layout.
The kitchen also enjoyed an update. We expanded the island for more countertop space. We added all new appliances. There are now two ovens. If you’ve ever cooked for 20 or more people, then you know how much of a lifesaver that can be.
Finally, let’s highlight what’s not visible in the video. We repaired the backyard oasis, complete with a new private dock. The outdoor space boasts a saltwater pool, a fire pit, and an outdoor kitchen.
We’re Grateful for the Opportunity to Help Families Rebuild and Improve their Homes.
