What’s one of the biggest problems your custom home project could face in Virginia Beach? Bad communication.
Have you ever been so excited for something? Maybe you had high hopes for a movie. Or you were so set on seeing your favorite band live and in concert. Or maybe as a kid, you eagerly awaited a specific birthday gift.
But then reality disappoints you. The movie’s terrible. Bad seats and poor audio mixing turned the concert into a headache. And as a kid, you receive the cheap knock-off version of what you wanted.
That’s the last thing you want between you and your custom home.
Miscommunication and misaligned expectations are the biggest pain points you’ll face with custom home builders.
You think the designer understands your vision, recognizes your needs, and plans to address them. Then you see the renderings, and you’re left wondering, “Where the heck did this come from?!”
This all comes down to communication. That’s the magic word for therapists and custom home builders in Virginia!
JM Froehler is owned and operated by the Froehler Brothers, Matt and Mike. Together, we’ve mastered an approach that streamlines the new construction process for both you and our contractors. While also ensuring everyone’s on the same page.

“We hired the Froehlor Brothers… to do an extensive renovation and addition to our beach home…Right from the start of the project, it was clear they were professional, honest, expert, friendly, and communicative, so that they and their team, and us always wound up on the same page.”

We’ve been building custom homes for over 40 years! Everything starts with you!
We want to build a home around your needs, but many families don’t even know where to even start.
Start by sitting down with Michael Froehler. And just sharing your ideas.
Love outdoor entertaining? We can incorporate an outdoor kitchen into your porch area. You want the foyer to open up into a breathtaking atrium centered around a modern spiral staircase, filled with natural light? We can do that.
What if you don’t know what you want?
Sure, you know you want a multi-generational home so you can protect your aging in-laws. But now you need to incorporate their needs into the design. But you don’t know all their needs! What about their future needs? Matt and Michael are certified Aging-in-Place Specialists, recognized by the National Home Builders Association. So we know how to design and build a home that works for every family member.
Perhaps you want an incredibly eco-friendly and energy-efficient home. But can you achieve that without sacrificing comfort? Of course! We’re certified Green Builders through EarthCraft of Virginia. So not only can we incorporate smart home features and cost-saving utilities, we can design a home that keeps you healthy. We do this by following the EarthCraft Builder Process Guide, which covers all the important but often overlooked aspects of your home. It covers indoor air quality, water management, and sustainable business practices.

But what about managing subcontractors and vendors? Building a home requires so many different teams and moving parts. How can you manage them all and avoid delays?
Yes, between the plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and so many others, it seems nearly impossible to keep everyone on track, much less on the same page.
We achieve a smooth, cooperative building process through proper documentation. We track project changes, client requests, supply chain delays, team responsibilities, and all the other tedious details. Without proper documentation, a single miscommunication could snowball into massive delays and significant problems.
We can’t promise a perfect schedule, because some delays are inevitable. But we can promise to keep YOU informed on the project’s timeline. We’ll always keep you in the loop!
“Matt, Mike and our Project Lead, Brian were both personal and professional. They thoroughly understood our vision and were meticulously focused and involved from demo to final inspection to ensure that we were satisfied with the progress in each phase.”
~ Mike & Mackenzie Codington
Communication often drops off after the construction phase. Your custom home build is done! You don’t need your custom home builders anymore… right?
Well, sometimes there are post-construction issues or you need additional services. If your custom home builder stops communicating, then you’re left on your own. We won’t leave you hanging!
We hold ourselves to very high standards. Everything we do is built to last!
So, how do you prevent bad communication from delaying your custom home project?
Communication is a two-way street, so you need a custom home builder who values clear communication as much as you do. You can’t always get a feel for their communication skills from just their website or one phone call.
Start by researching the custom home builder’s reputation. Read customer reviews, client testimonials, and ask for recommendations from your neighbors.
That’s why we’ve included client testimonials in this article. However, there’s a lot more where that came from!
